The proposed India Studies Program will promote
teaching and scholarship focused on the history,
politics, economics, languages, arts and culture of India. |

Foundation for India Studies brings Symbiosis to UH

A delegation led by Dr.
Vidya Yeravdekar, Executive Director of Symbiosis
International University in Pune,India, visited
University of Hosuton recently.
The delegation included Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean of
Symbiosis Health care Programs and Prof Subramanium,
Human Resources Director.
They signed a memorandum of understanding with UH for
expanding their programs in the international arena
through collaboration with The University of Houston and
the Foundation for India Studies.
This is a reciprocal visit by Symbiosis which was
visited by the University of Houston delegation led by
Dr. Jerald Strickland in January.2008.
Symbiosis is one of India’s leading educational
institutions imparting quality education for over 36
years and is a family of 34 academic institutions spread
across campuses in and around Pune, which is a sister
city to Mumbai, India’s commercial capital.
Symbiosis hosts over 45,000 Indian and international
students on campus. These campuses epitomize their motto
˜Promoting International Understanding through Quality
Education” and are a beehive for international students
from across the globe, being privy to Indian culture and
hospitality. Many of these campuses are fully
residential and recreational facilities include swimming
pools, amphitheaters and health care centers.
All of the Symbiosis International University students
live dormitories. It also ranks among the ten best
Business Schools in India. They have undergraduate ARTS
and Science, Health Technology, Law, Technology, Design
and Management. They have excellent professional MBA
programs.
Over 100,000 students are also participating in the
Distance Learning programs at Symbiosis.
Recognizing its excellent track record, Symbiosis
International University has been selected by the
University Grants Commission, Government of India, to
promote Indian education overseas.
Symbiosis plans to start a special India Studies
curriculum for American students who can come to India
for study as part of their education and get credits for
it here, and also an American studies program for Indian
students planning to come and study in America.
